Occupational Therapy Support Worker

Job summary

This post is fixed term/secondment for 12 months from start date to meet the needs of the service.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a part time (12 hours) Occupational Therapy Support Worker to work within the perinatal mental health service based at the Park Road Wellbeing Centre in Pontypool. The service is a specialist community team that covers the whole of the Gwent locality. This multi-disciplinary team provides care and treatment to women who are pregnant or postnatal and are at risk of, or are affected by mental illness. The team offer evidence based treatments in a way that is best suited to the woman, her baby and family. The post is community based and the successful applicant will see individuals within their own home. The ability to travel between sites is essential for this post.

This role is currently under review within the Health Board and will result in the issuing of a revised band 3 job description. If appointed your manager will ensure you are kept informed and support you through any changes including discussing any training requirements.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, delivering Occupational Therapy (OT) interventions under the guidance and supervision of an Occupational Therapist.

Occupational Therapists help individuals understand how their mental health impacts their ability to engage in everyday meaningful activities (Occupations).

The OT Support Worker will deliver person-centred and recovery-focused interventions, including:

  • Supporting individuals to explore the impact of their mental health on daily life and wellbeing
  • Facilitating both one-to-one and group activities, including the Discovery Through Activity programme
  • Helping individuals practise and develop skills to improve or maintain their independence and quality of life
  • Assisting with community-based interventions that promote social inclusion and wellbeing
  • Working collaboratively with the wider multi-disciplinary team to support holistic care planning and goal-setting

This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about mental health, enjoys working creatively with individuals and families, and is committed to supporting recovery during a uniquely important stage of life.

The Aneurin Bevan University Health Board OT service is committed to delivering a high quality service and therefore requires that all OT support workers participate in the Agored training programme.
