We have a fantastic opportunity for an 8B Principal Psychologist to join our Older Adults Psychological Therapies Service at Aneurin Bevan University Health Board. This role offers the chance to play a key part in shaping the future of psychological services for older adults in Gwent.

As a Principal Psychologist, you'll be at the forefront of delivering high-quality assessments, formulations, and interventions, while also empowering and guiding a team to achieve excellence in psychological care. You will lead a passionate team, including Assistant Psychologists and Arts Therapists, all supported by the Consultant Psychologist and Head of Specialty.

This role spans the full range of services we provide--from the Community Team to Inpatient facilities--allowing you to drive forward the continued development of specialist psychological services that make a difference in the lives of Older Adults living in Gwent.

Main duties of the job

The key elements to this role are

  • To be responsible for providing psychological services to Older adults in the population served by the service, including direct work with individuals, groups, families and significant others, and indirect consultation work advising staff of other disciplines on the psychological aspects of casework.
  • To conduct psychological and neuropsychological assessments and the delivery of appropriate therapeutic interventions for the full range of referred difficulties accepted by the service.
  • To provide teaching, training and supervision of the psychological work of psychologists and the work of staff of other disciplines.
  • To conduct and supervise research and audit, to develop and evaluate new clinical and psychological programmes, as a major responsibility of the job.
  • To work as a member of the multi-disciplinary team and to contribute to and support the activities and developments of this team.
  • To participate fully in the professional activities of the Older Adult Psychology Speciality and the Gwent Psychology Service.
  • To gain further experience of Professional Issues and to be familiar with current Strategic thinking in the NHS in general and Older Adult Mental Health in particular.

Essential

  • Psychology Degree (or equivalent conversion) conferring eligibility for graduate basis of registration with BPS
  • Doctorate in Clinical or Counselling Psychology (or equivalent)
  • Significant knowledge of the selection, administration and interpretation of neuropsychological assessments
  • Training in Clinical Supervision

Desirable

  • Post-graduate research degree
  • post-qualification advanced training in a formal psychological therapy

Experience

Essential

  • Advanced level of clinical expertise in OAMH
  • Consultation and Supervision experience with psychologists and other professionals
  • Experience of service leadership
  • Experience of service development

  • Academic teaching experience
  • Accreditation/experience of therapeutic models, include neuropsychological assessment
