Point of Care testing (POCT) Manager

Job summary

The successful candidate will provide robust, conscientious leadership and will be responsible for the management of Point of care testing (POCT) across ABUHB including the Grange University Hospital (GUH), Royal Gwent Hospital (RGH) and Nevill Hall Hospital (NHH).

The successful candidate will need a sound knowledge of managing a busy department, HR and quality systems.

You will be expected to oversee the day-to-day planning and organisation of POCT motivating and managing staff, prioritising a busy workload and overseeing all daily operations.

This is a band 8a position, the successful candidate will be educated to MSC level or have demonstrable equivalent knowledge and experience.

The post is a full-time permanent role, covering 37.5 hours Mon-Fri 9-5, although occasional weekend/out of hours work may be required.

Main duties of the job

To manage the technical aspects of the Point of Care testing service (POCT) for the HB.

In conjunction with the Clinical Lead, lead on the Procurement of POCT equipment across the Health Board.

Line management of POCT Co-ordinators, technical and support staff within the POCT service.

Provide complex written reports to the POCT operational group, Health Board POCT committee, Clinical Governance Committee and Directorate on all issues relating to the POCT service

Manage the training and quality management pertinent to the POCT service across the Health Board.

Have budgetary responsibility, with the Clinical Lead for POCT, for the expenditure within the POCT service.

Ensure the HB POCT Policy and Strategy are implemented and quality standards for the service are maintained in conjunction with the Clinical Lead for POCT

  • Relevant post registration experience in Clinical Laboratory Sciences
  • Experience in a supervisory role
  • Experience of the operation and maintenance of POCT devices
  • Experience of basic Office IT programmes e.g word processing, spreadsheets, databases.
  • Experience of laboratory information management systems
  • Experience of undertaking audits
  • Experience in the use of procurement systems such as Oracle
