Job summary

To use the ABUHB departmental vehicle to provide an Urgent Primary Care driving service to primarily respond to patient needs within Gwent by GP/Nurse visits, to drive the duty GP/Nurse to the patients home safely and within agreed standard timescales, and to provide an escort to the GP/Nurse in the patient's home to assist and support as chaperone if requested

The post holder will work within clearly defined procedures using their own initiative on routine matters. Supervision will be available.

Main duties of the job

Required to work flexible hours - To work Out of hours , Evenings, Weekends, Overnights and Bank Holidays

To drive the duty doctor / nurse to visits safely and within the current road and traffic act regulations

To provide a reception role when not driving and will be required to book in patients on the Adastra system.

maintain the cleanliness of the vehicles.

Be responsible for loading and unloading the appropriate medical equipment in the vehicle. To ensure all necessary equipment / stationery is available in the car at the start of the session.

To record all visits on log sheets to a high degree of accuracy. Returning all completed paperwork to the base after journeys.

To plan routes in advance and in order of priority (as decided by the GP/Nurse). Liaising with duty Shift Lead in the event of any problems or further visits require a change in clinical priority.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors and the general public.

Regular consistent and professional attendance, punctuality, personal appearance and adherence to relevant health and safety procedures.

To set up and set down equipment at start / end of shift.

To attend appropriate training courses as requested by the management team.

To be available for staff meetings and meetings with management.

To follow ABUHB policies and procedures as laid out in Urgent Primary Care Service Terms and Conditions and Induction/Information Pack.

  • Good standard of Basic education to GCSE or equivalent level
  • Knowledge of relevant policies, procedures, systems and regulations gained through induction and on the job training over a number of weeks not months or equivalent experience
  • Full clean driving licence
  • Proven IT skills must be able to access emails
  • Proven Good Customer Care Service

Desirable

  • Have good geographical knowledge of the coverage area
  • Advanced driving
