Job summary
Locum Consultant Urologist - to cover Maternity Leave - ABUHB is looking for an enthusiastic colleague to join their team of 10 Urology consultants, 4 Specialist Registrars, 2-3 senior clinical fellows, 12 Urology nurse practitioners/ANPs, and 1 surgical care practitioner. The Urology Directorate provides services for the population of Gwent from the department at the Royal Gwent Hospital, Newport. They also provide an on-call service to the Grange University Hospital, Cwmbran, where the emergency department and critical services are based. The total population covered is of the order of 649,000.
The Urology Department at the Royal Gwent Hospital is based in a special dedicated Diagnostic and Treatment Unit comprising facilities for diagnostic and treatments, office space for clinical staff, adjacent to an elective admission ward, Urology Assessment Unit and emergency admission ward. The main radiology department is in close proximity as is the urology day case unit, urology theatres, offering inpatient and day case facilities. From June 2024 we were proud to commence robotic surgery, which is situated in the main theatre suite, Royal Gwent Hospital.
Main duties of the job
To provide a urology service with responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment urological disease.
The post holder's timetable will include attending 2/3 outpatient clinics a week and undertaking 2/3 treatment or diagnostic sessions a week. There will be administration duties and the provision of care for inpatients and emergency admissions.
Continuing responsibility for the care of patients in your charge in liaison with consultant colleagues.
Supervision of junior members of medical staff
Interface with nurse specialists, wider team, patients and families
To conduct clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirements within the parameters of the Division's and Health Board's agreed objectives.
