An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Deputy Department Manager in the Fracture & Orthopaedic Unit in the Royal Gwent Hospital.

We are seeking an experienced Band 5 nurse that is passionate, forward thinking and looking to develop their clinical and managerial skills.

Candidates should be forward thinking, be able to demonstrate good clinical skills. Be professional, motivated and reliable with a passion for providing high quality patient care. You will be expected to demonstrate a high level of nursing assessment and clinical skills by supporting Band 5 nurses, student nurses and Band 2 HCSW's in their professional development.

You will be required to assist with the Management of the Unit on a day to day basis by supporting and acting on behalf of the Manager.

Assist the Manager with service development.

To be aware and demonstrate practice based on current advances in nursing.

To work within codes of practice and professional guidelines.

Work in conjunction with other disciplines in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care.

To promote evidence-based practice and act as an accountable role model and clinical expert.

Main duties of the job

Assess patients nursing needs, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care in order to ensure the delivery of effective patient care.Ensure the principles set out in the Fundamentals of Care are incorporated into daily practice to ensure a high-quality service for patients and clients.Ensure that patients and carers/relatives are involved in the planning and delivery of care.Ensure that effective communication is established and maintained with patients and carers/relatives, taking accurate message information on the phone or from seniors, relaying all environmental and patient information to the nurse in charge and remain polite and courteous at all times.Communicate complex and sensitive information to patients/families, including patients with special needs/learning disabilities or other barriers to communication.Assess patient's suitability for discharge following medical review and instigate discharge planning arrangements. Liaise with multidisciplinary teams as appropriate to assist in complex discharge planning.Administer medication e.g., intramuscular/subcutaneous medications, ensuring that procedures are compliant with Aneurin Bevan University Health Board Policy.Ensure that the patient is safely prepared for and escorted to/from theatre, radiology and other investigations.Recognise and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency situations.The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post.
