Job summary

The Head of Service is a senior, pivotal and central role within the Primary Care, Community Services and Complex and Long-Term Care Division. The post holder will be responsible for leading and delivering an extensive portfolio of strategic and operational programmes which delivers high quality, patient centered services.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide leadership, strategic and professional management combined with operational responsibility for partnership working and operational planning in the locality and on identified areas, across the Primary Care, Community Services and Complex and Long-Term Care Division. They will take a lead role supporting the General Manager/Divisional Director, in the development and implementation planning working jointly with the Local Authority and Third Sector partners. They will be the accountable officer responsible for all financial, physical and human resources within their relevant area and will be required to develop and deliver a number of services within the remit of Complex and Long-Term Care.

Job responsibilities

To direct, lead and motivate the Complex and Long-Term Care team ensuring a high standard of professionalism, efficiency and effectiveness in the delivery of planning and development of local service provision, ensuring that activity is fully aligned to the business and strategic priorities of the Health Board. This will include coaching and mentoring, resource planning, standard setting, performance management, team and individual development.

Ensure that the Health Boards aims and objectives are clearly communicated to the staff within the team.

Ensure that the Divisions Complex and Long-Term Care Unit function is proactive and influential in its contribution to the HBs strategic and operational plan.

Professionally lead the relevant team members to ensure a culture of continuous improvement and professional excellence is achieved.

Develop and empower all members of the team to perform to high standards and innovate.

Actively support the development of leadership skills across Team Leaders.

Ensure that the workforce is managed and developed and that employment policies/practices are adhered to.

To ensure that statutory, mandatory and legal obligations are adhered to.

Together with the Workforce & OD team, establish systems and processes to ensure development and implementation of effective recruitment/retention strategies for the division.
