Job summary
A part time Band 6 vacancy has arisen in the Point of Care Testing (POCT) Dept for a highly motivated individual to join the team, providing high quality POCT for the Health Board (ABUHB). The Team supports a variety of POCT equipment e.g.. Blood gas machines glucose meters located in most clinical areas in the HB.
The post based in Pathology involves spending time on the wards, clinics and out patients supporting the clinical areas in the use of POCT equipment. The role includes: training, maintenance, trouble shooting and monitoring quality performance of devices and users. The role would suit a Qualified Nurse or BMS with an interest in POCT.
It's an exciting time to be in POCT as it's a rapidly expanding field and forms an integral part in the Clinical futures strategy helping to facilitate care closer to home. It's an opportunity to be involved in transforming the way healthcare is delivered in Wales.
The post is based at The Grange Hospital but, the successful applicant will be expected to work across the HB. Ability to transport yourself and equipment between sites is required for this vacancy.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
Main duties of the job
You will be expected to demonstrate excellent organisational skills and be flexible and adaptable in your approach to work. You must be able to work on your own initiative, use tact and diplomacy where appropriate and possess excellent communication skills. You must also be able to work as part of a small team.

The role would suit a Qualified Nurse, Biomedical Scientist, ODP etc who has an interest in the use of Point of Care Testing.
Knowledge of Point of Care testing systems would be beneficial although not essential.

The Point of Care team perform all training on all the POCT devices that are used throughout the organisation for all staff groups. Training will be a major element of the role. The successful candidate must be an effective communicator with a friendly demeanour.
