Job summary
We have an opportunity for a Clinical/Practitioner Psychologist to join the CONNECT Children's Weight Management Service. This post is Band 8a but we invite less experienced applicants to apply with a view to starting on Band 7 and commit to a plan to develop into the 8a role. We are seeking a compassionate psychologist to join our multidisciplinary team supporting children and young people living with obesity. ABUHB Weight Management Team comprises of an Adult, Children's and Maternity services. This post will be working with Children and Young People and you will be working closely with the wider WMS team members. You will maintain close professional links with the wider child psychology team and will be professionally supported and managed within the Paediatric Psychology Service.
In this role, you will provide psychological assessments, individual and group interventions, develop personalised intervention plans aimed at promoting sustainable lifestyle changes and identifying barriers to these. Collaborating closely with dietitians, physicians, and other healthcare professionals, you will address the complex psychological, emotional, relational and behavioural factors contributing to obesity.

Main duties of the job
- Provide psychological services to, young people and children with obesity and their families in agreement with the Weight Management service management team and your professional leads. This includes face to face and virtual work with individuals, groups, and families, significant others, and consultation work advising staff of other disciplines on the psychological aspects of casework and patient management plans. It involves conducting psychological assessments and the delivery of appropriate therapeutic interventions for the full range of referred difficulties accepted by the service.
- Provide teaching, training, and supervision of psychological work to psychologists and staff of other disciplines. Conduct and supervise research and audit, develop and evaluate new clinical and psychological programmes, as a major responsibility of the job. Participate in relevant research/audit groups.
- Contribute to the development of new psychological services and participate in service planning and development, in agreement with the Weight Management Professional management team. Participate fully in the professional activities of the Weight Management Service and ABUHB Psychology Service.
- Gain further experience of professional issues and to become familiar with current strategic thinking in the NHS in general and Weight Management for children, young people and their families in particular.
