Job summary
Applications are invited for the post of Specialist Grade Doctor in Pain Management. This post has arisen to replace senior staff member within the Chronic Pain Service at Aneurin Bevan University Health Board (ABUHB).
ABUHB Chronic Pain Service is a multidisciplinary team of consultants, psychologist, specialist physiotherapist, clinical nurse specialists and health care support workers. The ethos of the service is in line with Welsh Assembly Government guidance to facilitate self-management of chronic pain as a long-term condition by provision of multidisciplinary, patient-centred management. Chronic Pain Services are provided across ABUHB sites and include face-to-face/remote consultations, interventional therapy, psychology and pain management programme. Administrative, secretarial and managerial support is available to ensure compliance with the targets set by Welsh Assembly Government.
The post would comprise 10 sessions; 8.5 DCCs and 1.5 SPA (comprising 1 SPA for Continuing Professional Development, job planning, appraisal and revalidation purposes, and a further 0.5 SPA with option for additional up to 1 SPA for candidates evidencing desired non-clinical interests and/or expertise).
Main duties of the job
As a specialist role appointment, successful candidates will be expected to be able to work autonomously in the chronic pain service providing overall responsibility for patient care. The post-holder is expected to provide high quality clinical care to be delivered to patients including clinical leadership, teaching and supervision of junior medical staff. The post-holder will have their own lists of patients and expected to follow-up and treat as appropriate. The post-holder will also be expected to take over the care of existing patients in the pain service. Job plans will take into consideration the successful candidate's skills and interests although they may be expected to work in all areas, depending on individual skills, for service requirements. Participation in clinical governance, research activities and teaching are encouraged. There are exciting opportunities for developing the service in line with local and national guidance.
The post holder has a general duty of care for their own health, safety and wellbeing and that of work colleagues, visitors and patients within the hospital. This statutory duty is in addition to any specific risk management or clinical governance accountabilities associated with the post.
