Job summary

An exciting opportunity to work as an Early Years Bladder & Bowel Assistant Practitioner to support the Paediatric Clinical Nurse Specialist within the nurse led Bladder and Bowel Service, Aneurin Beavan University Health Board. To assist the Senior Nurse and Bladder & Bowel Team leader to maintain and develop a quality paediatric continence service.

Main duties of the job

To work under the indirect supervision of the Paediatric Bladder & Bowel CNS to provide clinical and educational support and advice to health professionals, families and children with the aim of promoting continence and managing incontinence.

The ability to travel throughout the UK, Wales and all five boroughs of the ABUHB is an essential component of this role.

To provide training and education to promote first line Healthy Bladders and Bowels advice, and deliver training to early yearssettings regarding the on-going support given to children who have not achieved continence. They will provide pro-active early interventionadvice for the achievement of continence and toilet training for children who have had a delay in this developmental milestone. The post holder,in accordance with the pathway, will support individual children referred by the named Paediatric Continence Team by implementing a structuredtoileting programme within the home. Where toilet training has not been achieved in Early Years Education Settings, staff advice and supportwill be provided, along with attendance at relevant meetings to support the achievement of continence. Development of training presentationsand supporting resources will be required. The objectives will be to provide early years support to prevent the difficulties that children canexperience with toileting, including: Idiopathic Constipation, Day and Night Time Wetting and toilet training difficulties.
