Job summary

The post holder will be responsible for the provision of manual handling training for the organisation, including the delivery of training and assessment of staff competence. In relation to the provision of this training, the postholder will take a lead in monitoring training compliance across the Health Board, where appropriate assisting managers and co-ordinating programmes to ensure that staff are trained in a timely fashion.

In addition, as an accredited trainer in manual handling, the post holder will deliver training sessions for all staff and undertake the update training and accreditation of manual handling link trainers.

The post holder will also be required to deliver training courses in relation to the manual handling to staff throughout the Health Board.

Additionally, the post holder will provide advice to managers and staff on manual handling and display screen equipment issues and support the development of a training needs analysis for the Health Board.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of this role include:

Delivery of training packages for staff in safe manual handling techniques.

To ensure adequate training courses are available to meet the requirements of the agreed risk assessments and training needs analysis.

To actively participate in the manual handling agenda.

To undertake the administration of relevant training courses.

To engage with individual staff in a sensitive manner and their managers to discuss remedial/alternative actions where an appropriate level of competency has not been achieved.

To ensure that course preparation is effective, including risk assessment of training facilities.

To ensure that all trainees gain a clear understanding of the concept of safe manual handling and the importance of using mechanical aids to minimise the risk.

To maintain a high level of physical fitness in order to deliver practical training courses.

To work within the parameters of the All-Wales NHS Manual Handling Training passport and information scheme, as per guidance provided by the Head of Health and Safety.
