Job summary
The ABUHB Specialist Palliative Care Team is a peripatetic consultant-led service which aligns with the Primary Care and Community Division. The service delivers consult support and advice to patients and families within the hospital setting, medical staffing for the Specialist Palliative Care inpatient unit in St Davids Hospice Care; and consultant-led support for Palliative Care community teams across Gwent and South Powys in collaboration with the third sector.
The post may involve working within an inpatient unit setting at St Davids Newport providing direct clinical care to patients with specialist care needs and their families, this will be with a wider multidisciplinary team consisting of registered nurses, specialty doctors and more under the supervision of a Palliative Medicine consultant.
The post may also involve working as part of the hospital Palliative Care team providing consult and support to patients in the Gwent acute sector.

Main duties of the job
Integral to the responsibilities of the post are the followingrequirements:-
- To ensure the provision of afirst-classclinical service.
- To support the effective leadership to all staff engaged in thespecialty.
- To sustain and develop teaching and research whereverappropriate.
- To undertake all work in accordance with the Health Board's procedures and operating policies.
- To conduct clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirements and within the parameters of the Division's and Health Board's service plans.
- To maintain the confidence of business plans and development strategies formulated for the speciality, the Medical Division or the Health Board.
- Support a low-intensity on-call rota providing telephone advice for the inpatient unit Monday to Friday (8am-9am and 5pm-6.30pm)
