Job summary

A development opportunity has arisen for a senior occupational therapist to work as part of a friendly and supportive team on a 21-bedded GP-led ward.

The post is based at Monnow Vale Health & Social Care Facility in the market town of Monmouth and, alongside ward-based work, includes providing a follow up reablement/resettling service to people living across a large rural area.

The successful candidate will work alongside nursing and health care support staff, a dedicated ward social worker, a physiotherapist and a therapy technician to provide a therapy service to adults requiring rehabilitation or who have complex discharge needs.

As part of a wider integrated team including community therapists and technicians, there are plenty of opportunities for shared training, shared working and support.

Main duties of the job

To provide an occupational therapy service to a 21-bedded GP-led ward.

To assess and address occupational performance in the areas of self-care, productivity and leisure.

To carry out complex assessments in moving and handling, specialist seating and bed positioning.

To attend and contribute to the weekly multi-disciplinary meeting and to family meetings.

To be person-centred at all times and to have a good understanding of the mental capacity act and how this impacts on assessment and intervention.

  • HCPC registration
  • 1 year+ experience

Desirable

  • Post-graduate experience of working with people with neurological & orthopaedic conditions & dementis

  • Evidence of knowledge of moving and handling
  • Evidence of knowledge around seating/bed positioning
  • Evidence of good written and oral communication skills
  • Able to travel across a large rural area
