Job summary
This full time, 10 PA position offers broad clinical dermatology experience in a busy and well supported Dermatology Department with allocated time for development of specialist interests and research.
This would be an ideal position for an enthusiastic candidate keen to prepare for entry on to the national specialist Dermatology training programme or alternatively as part of CESR training in Dermatology. The department has a record of already successfully supporting several doctors in furthering their Dermatology careers via both of these routes.
Main duties of the job
The post holder would work alongside our current supportive team of 10 consultants, to provide the full range of Dermatology specialist clinics for Aneurin Bevan Health board's 600,000 population. Specialist clinics are set up to cover all areas of Dermatology including general medical clinics, one-stop lesion clinics, paediatric dermatology, biologics, phototherapy, joint vulval clinics with Gynaecology and joint Dermatology/Rheumatology clinics. The department works closely with Medical Illustration to provide an award winning Teledermatology Service which is currently expanding.
The post would suit those who have passed their FY2 (or equivalent) competencies and have sound background knowledge of medicine. MRCP (or equivalent) is desirable but not essential.
Currently there is no on-call commitment.
This is a 8 month post in the first instance, however there is potential for a renewable contract beyond if exceptional progress is demonstrated on e-portfolio review.
The Clinical Fellow will be afforded the same training opportunities as our training posts, with access to in house training and study leave. The appointee will be encouraged to contribute to our regular clinical governance meetings and take part in case presentations.
Outpatient clinics are held across the Health Board in 5 hospitals with a Dermatology Unit for inpatient, day surgery and phototherapy at St Woolos Hospital, Newport. Phototherapy Services are also provided at Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr, Ystrad Mynach.
