Job summary
The Surgical High Care is a high care surgical unit which is looking for Registered Nurses who wish to expand their experience in surgical nursing in a high care setting, to improve their clinical decision making and develop their management skills. The focus of the ward is to provide a quality service to patients on the elective surgical pathway and provide excellent clinical care

Main duties of the job
The Surgical High Care Unit is an Enhanced Care Surgical Unit looking after patients on the Elective Surgical Pathway, from any surgical speciality. Admissions to SHC are patients who have either had complex or lengthy surgery or because of patients' complicated personal medical history means the patient requires close post operative monitoring. We are also able to provide specialist skills such as arterial blood gas monitoring, provide vaso-active drugs, high flow oxygen therapy and further adjuncts, SHC is a newly set up flagship unit independent of Critical Care. Patients are cared for by their parent surgical team, with the guidance of the anaesthetic team. Patients are closely monitored in SHC for up to 48 hours before returning to their base admission ward once deemed stable to do so.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
