The Local General Hospital for the Caerphilly County Borough - Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr (YYF) - opened in November 2011. The hospital replaced the 85 year old Caerphilly Miners' Hospital and Ystrad Mynach Hospital and some smaller community units in the County Borough, with the most up to date health facilities. YYF is a 269 bed Local General Hospital with a floor area of 30,146m2 arranged over four levels. Central to the development of the hospital was the inclusion of 100% single ensuite bedrooms which help to ensure the provision of high quality care, aid the reduction of hospital acquired infection rates and address the privacy and dignity needs of patients. The new Breast Unit is currently under construction and should be operational by January 2024 as the main centre for breast surgery.
