Job summary
Aneurin Bevan University Health Board has a vacancy for 0.4 WTE, for a enthusiastic and forward-thinking pharmacist/s to join our antimicrobial team. The successful candidate/s will lead on antimicrobial stewardship in primary care alongside current post holder (1.1 WTE total) within the Health Board, working collaboratively with our Consultant Pharmacist for Antimicrobials to promote antimicrobial stewardship.
Exceptional communication and collaboration skills will be required as the post-holder will be working with a wider team of practice pharmacist and prescribing advisors, to improve antimicrobial stewardship across practices and care homes. The successful candidate will also need strong persuasive and leadership skills in order to work closely with GPs, cluster leads and the infection prevention team, as well as pharmacy staff across all sectors, to optimise antimicrobial prescribing. The role will be key in delivering Welsh Government antimicrobial prescribing improvement goals and healthcare associated infection reduction targets and AWMSG National Prescribing Indicators.
We are therefore looking for an exceptional individual with a proven record of leadership and service delivery. You will need to be an excellent communicator and have the skill, enthusiasm and drive to be able to successfully implement and manage change within a challenging environment. Primary care experience is essential.
Main duties of the job
To act as an ABUHB Antimicrobial Pharmacist within primary care. The post holder will be a highly specialist clinical pharmacist providing specialist pharmaceutical advice regarding the prescribing and usage of anti-infective agents to clinicians and other healthcare professionals.
To work in conjunction with the ABUHB Consultant Microbiologists and wider antimicrobial team (AMR) to produce and promote guidelines on the safe and cost-effective use of antimicrobials. This will include both Health Board wide and primary care specific guidelines to rationalise use, promote public health and minimise the spread of antimicrobial resistance.
To be the local pharmacy lead for all issues relating to antimicrobial usage and infection control within primary care, including acting as professional secretary to the ABUHB Antimicrobial Working Group or Antimicrobial Guideline Group on a rotational basis.
To be responsible for developing, planning, undertaking and co-ordinating clinical audits and prescribing projects to review antimicrobial prescribing and usage within primary care.
To be responsible for writing and delivering educational resources and providing training on antimicrobial stewardship to a range of healthcare professionals across primary care.
To be responsible for Analysing primary care Healthcare associated infection route cause analyses to identify any prescribing-related issues or themes and taking steps to address these.
