Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen due to a vacancy to support service provision at the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery department in Aneurin Bevan University Health Board.
Applications are invited for a Locum Speciality Doctor post in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery based at the Royal Gwent and Grange University Hospitals.
The existing department in the Royal Gwent Hospital has been open for 24 years.. There are six consultation rooms, surgeries and two operating theatres.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will join the 5 maxillofacial consultants, 1 Specialist Registrar, 1 Core Trainee, 5 Specialty Doctors and 8 DCTs in the provision of the specialist and routine Oral and Maxillofacial surgery services within the department. A full range of Oral and Maxillofacial specialist surgery is carried out in Grange University Hospital with a complement of 10 inpatient beds and a dedicated theatres and Day Case Procedures in Royal Gwent Hospital. Close relationships are maintained with ENT, Radiology, Orthodontics and Dermatology Departments. There is an active Postgraduate Centre.
The suitably qualified clinician will join the 2ndOn-call 1:6 rota for Oral and Maxillofacial emergencies.The contract will be for 10 sessions plus on-call supplement

Applicants must be fully registered with the GDC and shall have completed 4 years full time postgraduate training ( or its equivalent gained on a part time or flexible basis) since first obtaining registration, including adequate experience in the specialty; or
Shall have equivalent experience and competencies
Possession of MFDSRCS, or MJDFRCS or FDSRCS would be advantageous
This position involves Regulated Activity with children and adults as defined by the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act (amended by the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012) and the following checks will be undertaken following any conditional offer:
- Enhanced check with barred list information, including
- an adults and childrens barred list check
