Cardiff and Vale University Health Board

Major Trauma and Critical Care Dietitian

The closing date is 26 April 2026

Job summary

A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen to apply for a Band 6 rotational dietetic post alternating between Major Trauma and Critical Care, with ongoing clinical cover provided across both areas throughout the rotation.

We are looking for a motivated and forward-thinking dietitian to join the multidisciplinary teams within Critical Care and on the Polytrauma Ward at the University Hospital of Wales. This post offers an excellent chance to develop advanced clinical skills in a fast-paced, specialist environment.

You will contribute to the largest Critical Care Unit in Wales and the Tertiary Major Trauma Centre (MTC), a key service within the South West and Mid Wales Trauma Network. This provides varied clinical exposure and strong professional links across six health board areas.

Applicants should have experience in acute dietetics. Experience in critical care, major trauma, neurosurgery or spinal injuries is desirable but not essential. Strong communication, teaching and teamwork skills are essential.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent relationship management skills and a practical, forward thinking approach to service development and evaluation and the ability to work in a team. You will work within a friendly and highly skilled department providing secondary and tertiary care and have numerous opportunities for professional and personal development. The team is committed to providing a seven day service to the hospital. You will be actively involved in the research, audit and the Clinical Governance agenda of the department and Health Board.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
