Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for suitably qualified Clinical Scientists to join the Cancer section within the All WalesMedical Genomics Service working flexibly for 37.5 hours per week. There are permanent, full-time positions available based at CanolfanIechyd GenomigCymru / Wales Genomic Health Centre The post holders will be responsible for the provision of genetic services for a range of solid tumour, haematological and germline cancer predisposition testing guided by clearly defined policies and procedures. Experienced applicants who are not yet registered will be considered.To be eligible, candidates must provide evidence at interview of having completed at least 75% of their relevant training programme. Applicants will then be expected to achieve HCPC registration by no later than October 2026. Candidates who do not meet this threshold are encouraged to apply for the next recruitment cohort, scheduled to open in July 2026

Main duties of the job

The post holders will have managerial responsibility for an additional component of the Genetics service (e.g. Quality, Training). The post holders will undertake service developments in conjunction with the head of the section.

The All Wales Medical Genetics Service (AWMGS) provides a comprehensive clinical genetics and laboratory service clinical genetics services to the 3 million residents of Wales.

Welsh Government and the Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee are investing in the All Wales Medical Genomics Service to ensure patient equity across the UK in accessing genetic testing methodologies. The investment has seen a £10 million investment over a 3 year period to ensure AWMGS stays in the forefront of genomic medicine and develops the best diagnostic genetic services for patients.

The Cancer Section provides solid tumour, haematological and germline testing via a wide range of genomic technologies and in close partnership with the AWMGS bioinformatics section. These include large panel testing, ctDNA testing, FISH and a range of targeted genomic assays. The service is currently developing in house whole genome sequencing in close collaboration with clinicians.
