Job summary

Ynys Saff Sexual Assault Referral Centre based within Cardiff Royal Infirmary provides a safe space, specialist support and dedicated care for men, women and children who have been sexually assaulted.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Crisis Worker to join the team. The post holder will provide high-quality, person-centred crisis intervention to individuals following sexual trauma.

Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, the Crisis Worker will contribute to the assessment, management, and support of people presenting in crisis. The role requires a compassionate, trauma-informed approach.

This is an on site role 16.00 - 23.00 and following this, the post holder will be on call until 8am the following morning, should police request the use of the SARC through the night. Call outs are paid at a time and a half. Access to transport is essential for this post.

There are times when the postholder may be expected to attend other NHS sites, custody suites or a person's home.

Main duties of the job

To provide support, information and crisis management to clients attending the SARC in partnership with the police and forensic service provider.

To provide support and information to clients that do not wish police involvement initially, discussing the process of a self referral examination and assisting with the recording and storing of forensic samples

All SARCs in England and Wales are currently waiting to be accredited to ISO 15189 Forensic Accreditation Standards to reflect the high standard of care and forensic integrity for cases that may be heard at Crown Court. Crisis Workers will follow processes as set down by the Quality Management System, including a thorough forensic clean of the examination area to ensure forensic integrity is maintained at all times. A willingness to provide a DNA samples for the police Staf Elimination Database is required, this will be discussed at interview.
