Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a substantive Consultant Obstetrician with an interest in high-risk pregnancy to join the team at University Hospital of Wales (UHW). This role offers a chance to work in one of the leading healthcare institutions in the UK, providing specialist obstetric services and contributing to the growth of a dynamic, forward-thinking department.
UHW is a leading tertiary referral centre known for its excellence in cancer care and research. You will be part of a highly experienced team dedicated to delivering the best outcomes for patients. This is a unique opportunity to make a significant impact in the field of high-risk pregnancy while enjoying the benefits of living and working in the vibrant capital city of Cardiff.
Applicants should either be on the Specialist Register or be a Specialist Registrar within six months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT at the time of interview.
You will be able to take advantage of the excellent Consultant contract for Wales. The basic salary range for this post is £110,240 per annum to £160,951 per annum.
Applicants must ensure they provide names and contact details of referees covering at least the last 3 years of their employment/training history in full. In addition, applicants who are currently or have most recently been employed as a substantive Consultant or as a Locum Consultant in post for more than 12 months must also provide the name of their Medical Director as an additional referee.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will work collaboratively with other obstetricians and the wider multidisciplinary team in the department to provide both elective and emergency obstetric services to secondary and tertiary level patients attending the hospital.
The successful candidate will contribute to the obstetric workload of the department including delivery suite sessions and on-call commitment and will take an active part in undergraduate and postgraduate education. All obstetricians are expected to become either a PROMPT facilitator or deliver CTG teaching as well as contribute more generally to teaching and risk/governance processes. The candidate will benefit from a strong risk and governance background.
This job is required due to an expansion of the Obstetric on-call rota to ensure 84-hour Consultant resident cover. There has also been an expansion in the daytime presence on the Obstetric Assessment Unit (OAU) and ward round cover. As part of this wider change across the department there will be some reconfiguring of the antenatal clinics. This job will include full on-call duties on a 1:16 Obstetric on-call rota. It will include contribution to all aspects of emergency obstetrics, elective Caesarean section lists, OAU and antenatal clinics. Antenatal clinics are likely to include general obstetrics and high risk high-risk antenatal care.
Although this post is full-time, consideration will be given to applicants who require flexible working arrangements.
