Senior Clinical Orthopaedic Arthroplasty Fellow in Knee/Hip Surgery

Applications are invited for the above post commencing from 05-August 2026 for 12mths

The Orthopaedic and Trauma Department is based in the two Major Teaching Hospitals in the City of Cardiff, the Capital of Wales.

The post is attached to 2 high volume arthroplasty surgeons primarily at University Hospital Llandough, which is the major elective unit for the region, serving a local population of 500,000 and providing a tertiary referral service for a population of 1.5 million.

Candidates should have ideally completed a basic Orthopaedic Registrar training programme and passed the appropriate exit examination. The post is ideal for candidates seeking additional operative exposure prior to application for consultant posts or CESR application.

The post is not educationally approved and will therefore not attract a National Training Number.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will gain experience in primary and revision hip replacement, partial, total and revision knee replacement as well as knee arthroscopic surgery. The successful candidate will be expected to take part in ongoing research projects together with specific research.

The Post Holder will be expected to work at specialist Registrar level and will participate in the specialist Registrar on call rota at Llandough Hospital.
