Job summary
We are offering the opportunity for a motivated individual to work in the busy Outpatient departments across two sites; University Hospital of Wales and University Hospital Llandough. The successful candidate will be expected to work on an ad hoc or rotational basis depending on service needs.
The Nursing Support Worker will actively participate as a member of the OPD team and will contribute towards the efficient running of clinics. In addition, they will assist with maintaining ward stocks, keeping storerooms organised and maintaing the cleanliness of equipment and the clinical area.
The successful applicant will need to be reliable, enthusiastic and a self-motivated individual, preferably with recent hospital experience or experience in a caring background.
Opportunities will be given to work within a number of different specialties which currently include General Medicine, Rheumatology, Respiratory, Gynaecology, Infectious Diseases, Gastroenterology and Surgery; the list is not exhaustive. The applicant will need to demonstrate an interest within the different specialties and will be provided with continuing learning opportunities and practical in house training.Good communication and interpersonal skills, plus the ability to work as part of a team is essential. Knowledge of Outpatient work would be useful but training and support will be provided.
Due to increasing demands on the service, occasional evening and or weekend work may be required.
Main duties of the job
Plan and prioritise own delegated workload,
Work within established procedures when delivering care under the supervision of a registered healthcare professional.
Ensure the timely preparation of clinics to support the effective running of clinics.
Provide personal care to patients/clients ensuring that privacy, dignity, and security is maintained.
Obtain informed consent prior to providing care, understanding the actions required if care is declined.
Record accurate and timely information in the appropriate documentation
Support the registered healthcare professional in the preparation of clinics trolleys for procedures,
Undertake and record physiological measurements and undertake Point of Care testing
Obtain diagnostic samples, e.g urine samples / faecal samples/ sputum samples, wound swabs,
Obtaining venous blood samples whilst adhering to infection control and local guidance polices.
Act as a chaperone when appropriate supporting and preparing patients for / during medical interventions or procedures.
Participate in clinical emergencies, summoning assistance and following local or national guidance,
Contribute to the cleaning, stocking, assembly, dismantling, maintenance and preparation of clinical and non-clinical equipment to maintain a high standard of cleanliness.
