Qualifications

Essential

  • on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at time of interview
  • Full GMC registration with a licence to practise
  • FRCS
  • Postgraduate degree in Surgery

Desirable

  • Intercalated Degree
  • Academic excellence (prizes, merits, distinctions etc.)
  • Training in Radiation Protection or agreement to attend next available course

Experience

Essential

  • Clinical UGI experience
  • Completed CCST/CESR or equivalent
  • Experience of on call duties at middle grade level
  • Postgraduate level training in General Surgery and UGI Surgery

Desirable

  • Experience of UGI surgery in a tertiary unit
  • Evidence of participation in Research and Clinical Governance
  • Experience in resectional and benign Upper GI

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities

Essential

  • Evidence of effective team and multidisciplinary working
  • Effective and demonstrable communication skills in written and spoken English adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues
  • Up to date with current medical practices
  • Ability to take appropriate clinical decisions when necessary
  • Research and interests relevant to specialty
