THIS POST IS FIXED TERM FOR UPTO 12 MONTHS DUE TO MEET THE NEEDS OF THE SERVICE

The role of the Director of Nursing (DoN) is a key senior leadership position, ensuring excellent quality outcomes and experience for patients across all sites within Cardiff & Vale University Health Board.

The DoN will lead on the delivering of the national nursing vision using prudent healthcare principles ensuring that the vision, values and strategic themes of the UHB are translated into clear integrated goals.

Main duties of the job

The DoN will have delegated accountability and responsibility through the Executive Director of Nursing for ensuring professional leadership and governance of clinical services.

The DoN will create an open, just culture where teams are confident and skilled in providing regular, constructive feedback, where issues can be raised and solved openly, leading to a productive people centred solution focused working environment.

The DoN will actively establish and build a wide range of effective networks, contacts and partnerships within and outside the UHB which are used to inform and influence the direction of families, patients and service users.

The DoNs will lead an organisational approach to share and learn from successes and failures, staff and user feedback using an evidence and research data set to challenge and improve quality care and experience. Responsible as an integral part of the role for initiating and developing research and development programmes which must support the UHB's broader objectives.

The DoN will be responsible for the provision of strategic leadership and management of staff throughout the Clinical Board and ensure the safe, high quality and efficient management of all services within the responsibility and accountability.

  • Registered Nurse with current NMC registration
  • Highly relevant specialist clinical knowledge relating to sphere of responsibilities
  • Educated to Master's level

Desirable

  • Mental Health registration
  • Leadership qualification

  • Extensive experience of leading and successfully implementing service improvement/redesign programmes in a multi-disciplinary environment/ across a range of services
