Junior Clinical Fellow in Neonates
The closing date is 26 May 2025
Job summary
Applications are invited for a Junior Clinical Fellow post in Tertiary Neonatology at Noah's Ark Children's Hospital in Cardiff. This post is available from March 2024 for 6 months, but may be extendable up to a maximum of 24 months .
The Cardiff and Vale University Local Health Board offers a full range of regional specialties for children in Wales. This is an exciting opportunity to gain Neonatal experience at a world class Children's hospital, with a wealth of training and education opportunities available to successful applicants. The NICU at the UHW site provides specialised tertiary neonatal services for the whole population of South Wales with a small number of referrals from England. Whilst these are not accredited training posts, they attract the same training opportunities, including study leave, a named educational supervisor, and a very active educational program equal to that received by deanery trainees.
There is a possibility of extension of the contract with good prospects of 6-monthly rotation through the range of paediatric subspecialties within the Children's Hospital, subject to your performance, interest, and post availability nearer the time. The Children's Hospital for Wales offers a full range of Regional Specialties for children in Wales.
Main duties of the job
This job is a full-time, full shift pattern 1:8 rota. It includes duties in the evenings, at night and at weekends. The rota is shared with Paediatric and Neonatal trainees (ST1-ST3) from Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW), with equal opportunities for study leave, educational activities and quality improvement projects. The postholder will have the opportunity to develop a specific aspect of the service as a management role after discussion with his/her educational supervisor.
The 8-week rolling rota includes an opportunity to gain experience in each area of the neonatal ward including ITU, HDU, Nursery and post-natal ward. There is a spread of out-of-hours shifts including evenings (one week in total), weekends (3 weekends in 8 in total) and nights (one week in total in two separate batches). Annual leave is flexible and the post holder is encouraged to organise leave with other colleagues maintaining prospective cover.
