Job summary
To be responsible for coordinating all administrative tasks and telephone duties to the Emergency and Assessment Units based at the University Hospital of Wales, Medical Emergency Assessment Unit based at Llandough Hospital and Barry Minor Injuries Unit. To undertake the reception of patients, relatives and visitors onto the Emergency Units in line with Emergency Unit policy. To be aware of the need for confidentiality at all area times. Knowledge acquired through in house training. Work involves contact with children therefore DBS check will be completed.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply
Main duties of the job
- Providing a reception service to the Emergency and Assessment Units,Medical SDEC, and Minor Injury Units . Welcoming patients, relatives and visitors, assisting them when appropriate. Explain Emergency Unit procedures, on occasions this will include an explanation of the Department's triage system. Ensuring the reception area is presentable and ensuring the casual attendance records for visitors is accurate and filed
- Receiving and inputting patient details into a computerized medical records system. Registering patients with medical records if appropriate. Maintain, sort and file patient documentation appropriately, creating case folders where necessary and printing labels for individual patients.
- Ensure that in patient records are available for admitted patients up to and including withdrawal from Consultants and Secretaries' offices and other outlying areas of the Tracking and delivering of all notes to wards. Request notes from other Hospitals where necessary.
- Liaising with Directorate Management and Assessment Unit to ensure staff are aware of impending arrival of expected in patient admission. Registering these patients onto the Assessment Unit module on PMS, discharging and admitting as Communicating the arrival of ambulances to the Assessment Unit as required
- Updating information related to the admission, transfer and discharge of patients between areas using a computerized patient management system
