Job summary
The Consultant Midwife is a role model, leading expertpractice in midwifery, and to ensure all midwifery practice us underpinned by a philosophy of maximising health for women of child bearing age. They will empower midwives to promote health throughout the service.The Consultant Midwife will promote pregnancy and birth as a positiveexperience with subsequent health gains to the woman physically, mentally and sociologically.They will be expected to function as an independent practitioner who will work in collaboration with appropriate medical and allied healthcare practitionersand:-? Provide clinical leadership in order to lead service development andimprovement of maternal health and wellbeing.? Lead the development and implementation of quality initiatives andhealth programmes to reduce health inequalities, Increase normalityand improve? outcomes for mothers and babies and will share this knowledge locally,regionally and nationally.? Provide and receiving highly complex, highly sensitive or highlycontentious information where there are significant barriers toacceptance which need to be overcome using the highest level ofinterpersonal and communication skills, such as would be requiredwhen communicating in a hostile, antagonistic or highly emotiveatmosphere.? The Consultant Midwife will maintain and promote links betweenpractice and midwifery education, through an integrated approach, toenhance the experience of students midwives as midwives of thefuture
Main duties of the job
The Consultant Midwife post will be identified by five principal functions:1. Expert advanced practice2. Strategic Service Development3. Leadership and Consultancy4. Education, training and development5. Research and evaluation
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
This post is fixed term for 12 months due to - meet the needs of the service
