Job summary

Ynys Saff Sexual Assault Referral Centre at Cardiff Royal Infirmary provides a safe space, specialist support and dedicated care for people who have been sexually assaulted. We are looking for highly motivated, compassionate and enthusiastic individuals to join our team.

All SARCs in England and Wales are currently waiting to be accredited to ISO15189 Forensic Standards to reflect the high standard of care and forensic integrity for cases that may be heard at Crown Court. A willingness to provide a DNA sample for the police Staff Elimination Database is required. This will be discussed further at interview.

The successful candidates will be contracted for one hour a month to attend a supervision/rota meeting which is compulsory. They will also be part of an on-call rota comprising of weekday nights 5pm-8am and at least 2 weekend 12 hour shifts 7 - 7.

For each on call, you will be paid £24.33, call outs are paid at time and a half. This would suit as a second job due to the unpredictability of the role.

Bank Holidays also need to be covered on a rota basis.

Although you will be part of the team, the post holder will be largely lone working.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide support, information and crisis management to clients attending the Sexual Assault Referral Centre in partnership with the police and Forensic Medical Examiner. Following the completion of a forensic medical examination, the post holder will carry out a DNA forensic clean of the SARC following strict cleaning procedures as well as completing the required administration duties.

For this role you will need to be someone was is able to:

Remain calm and supportive in order to ensure that our clients are being listened to and treated with respect.

Be impartial information givers. You are there for the client and to inform them of their choices, rather than making the decision for them.

. Be able to work on own initiative in emotional and stressful situations.

Whilst challenging, the role of the Crisis worker is also an extremely rewarding role where you will be supported to develop your skills. Being a Crisis worker will allow you to develop your understanding of how multiple agencies work together, develop confidence in working with vulnerable people, improve your knowledge of safeguarding and be part of the NHS and South East Wales Regional SARC service.

The post holder will be flexible to cover shortfalls in the rota at short notice so we can operate 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year
