Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a number of suitably qualified Genetic Technologists to join our expanding All Wales Medical Genomics Service working flexibly for 37.5 hours per week. There are both permanent and fixed term posts available, currently based at University Hospital of Wales - however, please note that we will be relocating to a new facility at Cardiff Edge in 2024.

The post holder will be working within the laboratory teams/ subsections, working to support a range of patients requiring cancer, prenatal and rare disease testing.

The post holder will perform routine genetic testing using well-established and cutting-edge new technologies and analyses as directed by the Section Lead, responsible Clinical Scientist, or Lead Genetic Technologist. Other routine laboratory tasks may be allocated as necessary.

The All Wales Medical Genetics Service (AWMGS) provides a comprehensive clinical genetics and laboratory service to the 3 million residents of Wales.

Welsh Government and the Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee are investing in the All Wales Medical Genomics Service to ensure patient equity across the UK in accessing genetic testing methodologies. The investment has seen a £10 million investment over a 3 year period to ensure AWMGS stays in the forefront of genomic medicine and develops the best diagnostic genetic services for patients. The Service encourages personal development and you will be expected to take an active part in the appraisal process. Not only is this a busy and challenging specialty but you would also be joining a friendly, dedicated team in Medical Genetics. The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
