Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a newly-created Consultant Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgeon to work across the South Wales Regional Paediatric Network.

The post - hosted by Cardiff and Vale UHB - features a trauma component in Cardiff and an elective commitment at Cwm Taf Morgannwg UHB. The post provides a unique opportunity to benefit from and input into the whole of the Paediatric Orthopaedic health system across South Wales as work continues to develop the South Wales Paediatric Network.

Although this post is full-time, consideration will be given to applicants who require flexible working arrangements.

Applicants should either be on the Specialist Register or be a Specialist Registrar within six months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT / CESR(CP) at the time of interview.

You will be able to take advantage of the excellent Consultant contract for Wales. The basic salary range for this post is £100,000 per annum to £146,000 per annum.

Applicants must ensure they provide names and contact details of referees covering at least the last 3 years of their employment/training history in full. In addition, applicants who are currently or have most recently been employed as a substantive Consultant or as a Locum Consultant in post for more than 12 months must also provide the name of their Medical Director as an additional referee.

Main duties of the job

The full-time post holder will deliver their sessional commitments over a six-week cycle. There will be an attachment to an existing trauma team but there will be special responsibilities to patients admitted under the auspices of the Major Trauma Centre.

There is an on-call commitment which is currently 1 in 6 weekends (Friday midday to Monday morning) and approximately 1 in 4 week-days.

The network serves patients from the South Wales Health boards ; Aneurin Bevan University Health Board, Cardiff and Vale University Health Board, Cwm Taf University Health Board, Hywel Dda University Health board, Powys Health board, Swansea Bay University Health Board.
