Job summary
Applications are invited for the part-time post of Consultant in GUM & HIV based at Cardiff Royal Infirmary. The post is for 6 sessions per week although with further service expansion, there may be potential for additional sessions to become available in the future.The department undertakes around 1500 clinical sexual health appointments per month, including management of all positive STI results generated by Cardiff and Vale patients using the national online testing service.
Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is recognised as a teaching centre of excellence in a wide range of clinical services.
Applicants should either be on the Specialist Register or be a Specialist Registrar within six months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT / CESR(CP) at the time of interview.
You will be able to take advantage of the excellent Consultant contract for Wales. The basic salary range for this post is £60,000 per annum to £87,600 per annum for a 6-session commitment.
Applicants must ensure they provide names and contact details of referees covering at least the last 3 years of their employment/training history in full. In addition, applicants who are currently or have most recently been employed as a substantive Consultant or as a Locum Consultant in post for more than 12 months must also provide the name of their Medical Director as an additional referee.
Main duties of the job
Working with an expanding team of professionals, the post holder will work with a team of motivated and enthusiastic colleagues to deliver complex genitourinary medicine and HIV care, as well as supporting and training junior medical colleagues and sexual health nursing staff.
The post-holder will be expected to provide some contraception care and advice whilst supported by SRH Consultant colleagues for more complex presentations. As a senior member of the Clinical Team, the post holder will have a key role to play in guiding service delivery and development. Applicants may wish to note that in Wales - unlike other parts of the UK - sexual health services are not subject to a tendering process but are funded directly as part of the Cardiff and Vale University Health Board.
