Job summary
Weqas is an External Quality Assessment (EQA) provider hosted by the Cardiff & Vale University Health Board.
Weqas runs over 40 EQA Programmes, providing performance analysis, troubleshooting advice and an educational advisory service to NHS Pathology Departments, independent healthcare laboratories, independent pharmacies, forensic pathology services, veterinary pathology laboratories, clinical trial units and diagnostic companies.
Weqas provides four distinct services:
- External Quality Assessment for Laboratory and Point of Care Services
- Reference Laboratory
- Quality Control Production
- Education and Training
We are seeking a motivated, organised and professional individual to work with us for 15 months to cover maternity leave.
We are ideally looking for a Biomedical Scientist with a Specialist Diploma or equivalent. Candidates who hold a Specialist Diploma will be employed on a Band 6 contract.
A Qualified Biomedical Scientist without a Specialist Diploma or equivalent will be employed as a Band 5 Biomedical Scientist.
Weqas operates out of a dedicated unit with good rail and bus links. Free parking is available directly in front of the building.
This post is fixed term for 15 months to cover maternity leave.
Main duties of the job
What will you be doing?
- Providing customer care support to participants via email and telephone.
- Implementing changes to client registrations
- Completing data analysis of Laboratory performance and the generation of reports for participating Laboratories.
- Providing interpretation of individual laboratory and method performance reports.
- Taking responsibility for the preparation of routine EQA programmes and IQC material.
We're interested in people who have experience in some or all of the following areas:
- Project management and team work.
- Broad knowledge of methods and techniques in Laboratory Medicine.
- Quality Assurance and EQA.
- Research & Development and project design
- Working in a fast paced environment.
- Working to deadlines.
The post holder will need excellent communication skills, a flexible approach to work, good IT skills and excellent organisational skills.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
