Job summary
The University Hospital of Wales (UHW) is looking to recruit a Specialist Clinical Physiologist to join our neurophysiology team.
We provide electrodiagnostic tests for a range of referrers, covering adults and paediatrics in both inpatient and outpatient clinics at UHW and sister departments in the Cwm Taf University Health Board. Tests include many modalities of EEG (routine, portable, ambulatory, sleep-deprived, melatonin-induced sleep, continuous monitoring, video EEG telemetry & MSLT), nerve conduction studies, evoked potentials (SSEP & VEP) and electroretinography. We are always looking to develop our service and so would welcome engaged and passionate people to move us forward. In this vein, we have regular educational meetings where participation is encouraged with other departments within the hospital.
Able to travel to undertake the duties of the post at various locations in a timely manner is essential part of the role
Main duties of the job
To perform neurodiagnostic tests
Multiple modalities of EEG (routine, portable, ambulatory, sleep-deprived, melatonin-induced sleep, video EEG telemetry & MSLT).
Nerve conduction studies, with physiologist led clinics for CT and more advanced clinics following appropriate training.
Evoked potentials (SSEP & VEP), electroretinography and visual fields testing.
Tests would require reports completed and at times discussion with our Consultants.
Support the training of our students in Neurophysiological testing.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

- Able to interpret results and write clear and concise reports for Consultant
- Excellent history taking and experience of wide range of patients
- Ability to communicate complex and sensitive information in a variety of forms to patients, relatives and carers including children and patients with physical and/or learning disabilities
- Demonstrate interpersonal and communication skills
- Clear understanding of health and safety, clinical governance and infection and control
- Standing for prolonged periods
- IT literate and able to tolerate screens for prolonged periods for some tests
