Job summary

Applications are invited for the post of Consultant in Sexual & Reproductive Health based at Cardiff Royal Infirmary. The post is for 10 sessions per week.

The department undertakes around 1,500 clinical sexual health appointments per month, including management of all positive STI results generated by Cardiff and Vale patients using the national online testing service.

You will be able to take advantage of the excellent Consultant contract for Wales. The basic salary range for this post is £91,722 per annum to £119,079 per annum plus a further £26,672 per annum available in Commitment Awards. Consultants in Wales paid on one of the first three points of the substantive Consultant pay scale also receive a Wales recruitment incentive payment.

Applicants must ensure they provide names and contact details of referees covering at least the last 3 years of their employment/training history in full. In addition, applicants who are currently or have most recently been employed as a substantive Consultant or as a Locum Consultant in post for more than 12 months must also provide the name of their Medical Director as an additional referee.

Main duties of the job

Working with an expanding team of professionals, the post holder will be responsible for the delivery of complex contraception clinics (e.g. patients with co-existing medical problems and complex LARC procedures) and training for nursing and medical staff to support achieving their DFSRH and LOC's for LARC procedures. As a senior member of the Clinical Team, the post holder will have a key role to play in guiding on service delivery and development in respect of contraception and wider departmental business. This post also includes the opportunity to take a lead role in scoping and shaping the development of Menopause services within the UHB.

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is recognised as a teaching centre of excellence in a wide range of clinical services.

Although this post is full-time, consideration will be given to applicants who require flexible working arrangements.

Applicants should either be on the Specialist Register or be a Specialist Registrar within six months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT / CESR(CP) at the time of interview.

Academic interests will be encouraged; research and teaching in collaboration with Cardiff University's School of Medicine will be expected.
