Job summary
The duties and responsibilities will vary according to the clinical area in which the Healthcare Support Worker is based. All staff employed by Cardiff and Vale University Health Board can be required to work in any area other than their base unit on a temporary basis, to meet patient and service needs without prior notice. As an employee of NHS Wales you are required to adhere to the All Wales Healthcare Support Worker Code of Conduct.
The Health Care Support Worker will support the registered nurse in the provision of the highest possible standards of care for patients and their families. They will perform tasks within their own competence following direction from a registered nurse in a professional manner, maintaining confidentiality at all times. Working as part of a team to ensure the highest quality of care is given at all times to patients.
All applicants will need to work 12-hour shifts compromising of majority of days and weekends and occasional nights when the unit requires.

Main duties of the job
We are looking for a highly motivated enthusiastic band 3 health care assistants with high standards of professionalism to work in Same Day Emergency Care Unit (SDEC) . This unit incorporates the specialities of General Surgery , Vascular, Urology , ENT , Max Fax and Ophthamology.
SDEC comprises of 10 beds and 7 treatment chairs with a further 3 assessment rooms and 2 procedure rooms. The includes a large waiting room which allows the unit to deal with a vast number of referrals from GP's and A+E . The aim is to turn round ambulatory patients quickly using quick diagnostics , hot clinics and virtual in patient lists to save on length of stay and improve patient flow by promoting Home First.
This is an opportunity to develop clinically, personally and professionally in an exciting unit using skills such as cannulation and venepuncture along with assisting the Registered Nurse in managing sepsis through the triage process. The candidate must have competent computer skills as the post will require the successful candidate to use multiple computer systems. The unit has an excellent established nursing team who will be able to support and assist your development .
