Job summary

The Deputy Service Manager will support delivery of the operational plan for emergency admissions across the Emergency Unit and Acute Medical Unit, whilst providing high level, professional and confidential support to the Senior Management team.

The candidate must possess excellent organisational, problem solving and communication skills. They must be capable of working under pressure to meet deadlines and have the ability to confidently engage with colleagues at all levels of the organisation. The post holder will be required to work autonomously to drive forward their own programme of work and will need to use innovation to overcome challenges.

This post is an excellent opportunity for someone wanting to gain experience in order to progress to a Service Manager role.

Main duties of the job

  • To support the Directorate Team in identifying key performance areas to be addressed and implementing remedial action plans.
  • To take a lead role for recruitment, selection, and retention of Admin & Clerical staff in line with Workforce and Organisational Development Policies and procedures, including compiling adverts, job descriptions, and person specification and interviewing and selecting appropriate staff.
  • Proactively monitors compliance against Welsh Government Tier 1 Unscheduled Care targets.
  • Manages administrative and clerical staff, through the supervisory hierarchy, ensuring the timely and cost-effective provision of comprehensive support service to clinicians and managers alike.
  • To take a lead role within the Directorate in relation to Health and Safety, including monitoring effective risk management strategies within the Directorate, thus improving patient and staff safety and reducing unnecessary costs and financial liabilities to the UHB.
