Clinical Fellow in Haematology and Blood and Marrow Transplantation
Applications are invited for a Clinical Fellow in Haematology and Blood and Marrow Transplantation to work within the Haematology directorate based at the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff. The University Hospital of Wales is a level 4 Haematology unit supporting a large allogeneic Bone Marrow Transplant Service and CART programme. Cardiff and Vale University Local Health Board is one of the largest in the UK providing health services for over 500,000 people living in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan. We are a teaching health board with close links to Cardiff University.
The post holder will be supported and mentored by the Consultant Haematologists as appropriate to their professional needs, and interest and active participation in clinical trials will be encouraged and supported. The post holder will be expected to participate in the ongoing teaching and training program within the department and there will be support to attend clinical and scientific meetings where appropriate to further aid development.
As part of a multidisciplinary team the post holder will contribute to the delivery of inpatient and outpatient services and participate in quality improvement programmes across all aspects of our services.
Main duties of the job
The postholder will rotate between the haemato-oncology and BMT/CART services. The post holder will work closely with the existing Consultant colleagues and the Transplant Programme Director in the care of patients with malignant disorders including in-patient, outpatient and day unit sessions.
Cardiff & Vale UHB was commissioned as a CAR-T cell therapy centre for Wales in 2019. These therapies are amongst the first in the pipeline of cell therapies transitioning from 'bench to bedside' for both malignant and non-malignant diseases. They are considered to be highly innovative personalised treatments offering potentially effective therapy with severe but manageable adverse events which require specialised monitoring and management.
A role in teaching will be encouraged and supported, including training of junior medical and nursing staff as well as participation in the education of medical students.
