Job summary
Band 6 Occupational Therapist, Critical Care and Long-Term Ventilation (LTV).
An exciting and rare opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and suitably skilled Occupational Therapist to join the Critical Care team at the University Hospital of Wales (UHW).
The Critical Care Unit is a regional service and the largest in Wales and will allow you to gain and develop skills in a wide-ranging number of specialities including LTV, major trauma, neuro, spinal, neuromuscular, respiratory and acute medicine.
We wish to appointan ambitious and motivated individual with excellent communication skills,effective team working and a passion for rehabilitation and service improvement. Experience of rehabilitation, neurology or complex disability management would support this role.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work alongside a multi-professional team supporting specialist assessment and early rehabilitation, optimising function, recovery and participation in occupations.
Patient in this setting are complex, presenting with a range of conditions and rehabilitation needs. Interventions can include ADL; upper limb rehab/splinting, postural management/seating, cognition/delirium management, goal setting, equipment including assistive technology and discharge planning: transition to wards, repatriation or directly home.
You will have the opportunity to gain experience working with patients with a range of complex needs: spinal, neuro, medical, respiratory and trauma to develop knowledge, medical management and rehabilitation skills.
Occupational Therapy in Critical Care is developing and includes service improvement opportunities. The team comprises two Band 7s and two rehabilitation assistants (RA) and you will work closely with the RAs with the MDT.
A comprehensive training programme will be provided and support is available from the lead occupational therapists within this exciting clinical area. Continuous professional development is promoted and encouraged.
