Senior Biomedical Scientist (Band 7) Haematology -
An opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Senior Biomedical Scientist to join the dynamic and evolving team within the Haematology Department at Cardiff and Vale University Health Board.The department is looking for a HCPC Registered Biomedical Scientist with IBMS Certificate of Competence (or equivalent pre-2004) and appropriate post-graduate qualification.
The Haematology Laboratory is one of the largest in the UK offering analysis using a tracked Horiba FBC, digital morphology and sample storage system, Werfen Coagulation (soon to be upgraded to a tracked system), Beckman Coulter Haematinics and Oxford Biosystems ESR analysers and processes around 1 million samples each year. The department holds UKAS ISO15189:2012 accreditation and is a HCPC approved training laboratory. Training and development opportunities are available and all staff are encouraged actively to participate in CPD.
Previous experience in NHS is essential.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be expected to work between the UHW and UHL sites (as required) and have proven practical experience to be able to assist with the running of the Automated Haematology Laboratory. The post holder will report to the Automated Haematology Laboratory Manager.
The laboratory provides a 24/7 service and the successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the shift system if necessary.
All applicants need to demonstrate significant experience in a complex and busy Haematology NHS Laboratory in their application.
The department encourages personal development and you will be expected to take an active part in the CPD and appraisal process. Not only is this a busy and challenging specialty but you would also be joining a friendly, dedicated team in Automated Haematology.
