Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Nurse for Professional Development within the Emergency & Acute Medicine Directorate (EAMD) at the University Hospital of Wales.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the overall responsibility and accountability for the education and development within Emergency and Acute Medicine. Additionally, they will oversee and manage recruitment and retention for EAMD.
The directorate consists of the Emergency Department and Paediatric Emergency Department. Cardiff and Vale UHB's Emergency Department assesses over 150,000 patients a year (450-550 per day). The department provides care for acutely ill or injured patients of all ages. As well as a large resuscitation and majors trolley area, the department also has a nurse led minor injuries service and a Clinical Decisions Unit (CDU). Cardiff and Vale UHB are now the Major Trauma Centre for South West Wales and the first of its kind in this region.The directorate also consists of Acute Medicine services such as medical SDEC, a large acute assessment unit, older persons acute medical unit and short stay unit. In UHL, a Medical Emergency Admissions Unit with an ambulatory and majors' stream.
Main duties of the job
- Oversee and manage recruitment and retention across EAMD
- Ensure governance and assurances are provided to the Lead Nurse EAMD
- Hold overall responsibility and accountability for the development of education framework and training programmes.
- Support the development of knowledge and skills in line with service delivery
- Work with internal and external stakeholders
- Translate national guidance into local actions
- Support clinical governance including patient safety and staff investigations
- Budgetary management of education expenditure
- Provide Senior leadership and management support to all staff in EAMD
- Support UHB policies and procedures eg; Capability Policy
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply
