Cardiff and Vale University Health Board
This job is now closed
Job summary
Applications are invited for a unique opportunity to help reshape the future of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Neuroendocrine Tumour (NET) services in South Wales. We invite you to join our team for this new post based at University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, to support NET, gastroenterology, and hepatology services within the Health Board and across South Wales.
We are looking to appoint a motivated and enthusiastic Consultant with either a Hepatology or Luminal Gastroenterology background to join our multi-professional team, committed to delivering high-quality compassionate care for patients with NETs across South Wales, in addition to the candidate's personal speciality interest.
The Health Board hosts a nationally commissioned tertiary cancer service for patients with Neuroendocrine Tumours (NETs) in South Wales. This is an innovative, patient-centred, tertiary service achieving multiple national awards, and accredited as a European NET Society Centre of Excellence since 2022. This unique opportunity allows you to impact a rapidly growing field while serving the increasing demand for gastroenterology, endoscopy, and hepatology care in partnership with colleagues throughout South Wales.
Applicants should either be on the Specialist Register or a Specialist Registrar within 6 months of expected date of receipt of CCT / CESR(CP) at the time of interview. Suitable applicants should be competent (JAG accredited or equivalent) in diagnostic gastroscopy and colonoscopy.
Main duties of the job
Although some experience in NETs is desirable, applications from candidates with any luminal gastroenterology or hepatology experience are welcomed. We offer opportunities to branch out into a candidate's areas of interest such as ERCP, other hepatology, or luminal gastroenterology sub-specialities. Moreover, if required, initial dedicated SPA time will be provided to learn about NETs through a bespoke programme and a period of mentorship. Most patients have Gastroenteropancreatic-NETs (GEP-NETs) involving elements of luminal gastroenterology, endoscopy, and hepatobiliary medicine expertise.
Academic interests will be encouraged with internationally recognised research and innovation programmes, including development of digital technology. Research and teaching in collaboration with Cardiff University's School of Medicine will be expected.
You will be able to take advantage of the excellent Consultant contract for Wales. The basic salary range for this post is £91,722 per annum to £119,079 per annum plus a further £26,672 per annum available in Commitment Awards. Consultants in Wales paid on one of the first three points of the substantive Consultant pay scale also receive a Wales recruitment incentive payment.
Although this post is full-time, consideration will be given to applicants who require flexible working arrangements.
