Job summary
We are currently seeking a highly motivated Healthcare Scientist Specialist Post (Band 8a) in Tandem Mass Spectrometry to join the Wales Newborn Screening and Metabolic Laboratory team in the Department of Medical Biochemistry, Immunology & Toxicology Department based at Cardiff and Value University Health Board, Cardiff, Wales.
This post is open to both Biomedical Scientist and Clinical Scientists.
The successful candidate will have up-to-date knowledge and extensive experience in chromatography and mass spectrometry techniques.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
Main duties of the job
Working within/across Newborn screening and Metabolic the post holder will assist with the development and delivery of a broad range of complex, specialised diagnostic procedures. The post holder has a high degree of individual autonomy.
The post holder will work with the section/s which is responsible for the provision of a highly specialised biochemical service for children and adults to the UHB and to other hospitals within Wales and regional areas. The Newborn Screening Service analyses samples from ~35,000 babies per year.
The post holder will assist with the development of screening, second tier and diagnostic assays for a range of disorders by mass spectrometry and must have extensive experience of LC-MSMS and GCMS and will assist with method development, training and troubleshooting new and existing assays. They will ensure efficient management of the MS analysers and will ensure adequate supervision of any developmental work.
