We are offering an exciting opportunity for a part-time Band 8b Psychologist to join us as a co-lead in delivering clinical neuropsychological services to people with brain tumours receiving care under specialist neurosurgical services in University Hospital of Wales.
This post is supported by the pre-existing co-lead, friendly team of clinical/ neuropsychologists, and the wider Health Psychology Specialty. The role requires delivering on all aspects of a neuropsychological service. Alongside therapeutic services, it is an essential requirement to develop specialist neuropsychological assessment skills to promote presurgical informed decision-making and to support identification and management of neuropsychological risks and outcomes. This includes supporting intraoperative functional mapping where relevant.
There is access to a wealth of supervision within our supportive neuropsychology department. The post holder will be able to develop specialist skills with supervision from a Consultant Neuropsychologist. Completion of the QiCN will be supported. We have strong teaching and research links with Cardiff University, and research interests are encouraged.
We are looking for an applicant with interests in neurosurgical neuropsychology and working with adults with brain tumours. This post would appeal to an enthusiastic practitioner who holds patient care at the centre of their work.
Main duties of the job
- To provide a specialised psychology service to adults with brain tumours and their families/carers.
- The post holder will provide highly specialised neuropsychological assessments and interventions for patients and their families.
- The post holder will co-lead in providing a specialised neuropsychology service to the Neuro Oncology MDT.
- The post-holder will offer advice and consultation on psychological care to the multi-disciplinary team and wider, working within national and professional guidelines and the departmental procedures.
- The post-holder will be required to supervise more junior members of the team and manage the clinical governance and development agenda as a service.
- The post-holder will utilise research skills for audit, policy, service development and research within UHB guidance.
- This role will include design of services including highly complex psychological assessments, formulation and treatment on an individual and group basis, multi-disciplinary work, consultancy, liaison, research, teaching, and supervision of others.
- The post-holder is required to work autonomously planning and organising their own clinical work and other duties/responsibilities.
- To offer supervision and teaching to doctoral trainee clinical psychologists as a lead supervisor.
