Job summary
Applications are invited for a Consultant Rheumatologist to join the Cardiff and Vale UHB Rheumatology Service based at University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff. This post is full time, working 10 sessions per week.
There are specialist clinics within the rheumatology department which include an ankylosing spondylitis service, a combined clinic with dermatology, a paediatric service and biologics nurse led service. Close links are enjoyed with other specialties including renal and respiratory medicine. The service provides direct clinical care to patients on the Rheumatology Day Unit in addition to the outpatient setting.
You will be able to take advantage of the excellent Consultant contract for Wales. The basic salary range for this post is £91,722 per annum to £119,079 per annum for a 10 session commitment plus a further enhancement per annum available in Commitment Awards. Consultants in Wales paid on one of the first three points of the substantive Consultant pay scale also receive a Wales recruitment incentive payment.
Applicants must ensure they provide names and contact details of referees covering at least the last 3 years of their employment/training history in full. In addition, applicants who are currently or have most recently been employed as a substantive Consultant or as a Locum Consultant in post for more than 12 months must also provide the name of their Medical Director as an additional referee.
Main duties of the job
The Rheumatology Service covers Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan. Outpatient clinical activity is across two main sites - five outpatient clinics will be held across University Hospital of Wales Cardiff and Llandough sites. Duties will also include on-call cover, infusions of therapeutic substances in the day unit, and supervision of a registrar team and nurse led biologics clinic. The role is varied and exciting and the appointee should be committed to continued service improvement.
Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is recognised as a teaching centre of excellence in a wide range of clinical services.
Academic interests will be encouraged; research and teaching in collaboration with Cardiff University's School of Medicine will be expected.
Applicants should either be on the Specialist Register or be a Specialist Registrar within six months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT / CESR(CP) at the time of interview.
