Cardiff and Vale University Health Board have an opening for a "Network Support Officer Band 6". The Health Board Cisco network supports over 30,000+ devices spread over approximately 100 sites in the Cardiff and Vale surrounding area. These devices range from PCs, Servers and Printers to almost every type of Specialised Clinical Equipment. A large Cisco Wireless LAN is also deployed and this is continually being expanded and upgraded.
The Network Support Officer Band 6 position is to support the implementation and management of the Health Board data network, ensuring standards for performance, availability and security are maintained.
You will join a small team of highly skilled network engineers who are responsible for the day-by-day operation of the network. In-depth configuration and troubleshooting skills are a requirement of this position. In addition, the successful candidate will be required to provide technical advice on various I.T. projects and also project manage a number of infrastructure related projects.
Candidates will need to be educated to Degree level (or equivalent qualification in a relevant subject) and will ideally be working towards or have CCNA.
Main duties of the job
- To support the Trust's Computer Network and the Computer Systems that rely on it.
- Work with Network & Deputy Network Manager in designing and implementing changes to the network infrastructure.
- Roll-out appropriate tested software in order to ensure that the network is reliable and that the latest functionality is maintained.
- Test new network hardware / software and advise Network & Deputy Network Manager on suitability for implementation into trust's network.
- Roll-out new network hardware as appropriate.
- Proactively monitor network performance & availability.
- Respond to network failures and ensure that a fix is achieved in the shortest possible time.
- Perform routine changes to network systems.
- Monitor and enforce the security of the Trust's IT systems and infrastructure to the PSBA standards on all points of access to the Trust's network resources.
- Ensure that network systems are running latest antivirus software as directed by the Network Manager/Deputy Network Manager.
- Participate in project work and become point of contact for users during project life cycle. Ensure projects meet approved standards and follow recommended procedures.
- Ensure that all relevant procedures for system administration are documented as directed by the Network & Deputy Network Manager Maintain version control of all software and documentation.
- Participate in the IT on-call rota as directed by the Network & Deputy Network Manager
