Job summary

The Cardiothoracic Directorate is a busy and growing service based at University Hospital of Wales and University Hospital Llandough.

We are looking for a capable and enthusiastic individual to join our secretarial team. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive secretarial and administrative support to the Adult Congenital Heart Disease Service and will provide support to the general cardiology service as required.

You will need to be an experienced audio typist and possess excellent administration skills to undertake this demanding and fulfilling role as part of a hardworking and friendly multi-disciplinary team. Excellent IT skills are required for this post due to the number of IT systems used by the ACHD Service.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

The role will include a range of duties including audio typing, word processing, waiting list management and supporting the management of the ACHD MDT. It will also require support in booking and arranging outpatient appointments and being the first point of contact for patient queries amongst other general administrative duties.

You must have the ability to work in a busy environment and possess excellent organisational skills, have the ability to use your own initiative and communicate well at all levels.

The work includes contact with staff, patients and external agencies. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills along with a professional and friendly approach is required. You will have a high regard for confidentiality.
