Pharmacist - Training & Development

Are you a dynamic individual with an interest in training and development?

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated pharmacist to join the Cardiff and Vale UHB's Pharmacy training and development team. You will be a designated supervisor (DS) for trainee pharmacists (TP's) undertaking the HEIW (Health Education and Improvement Wales) Foundation Pharmacist training programme. You will work closely with the Training Programme Director (TPD) to develop and deliver the directorate's training plan. You will be a member of the Pharmacy training and development team, contributing to achieving the team's objectives as well as having a clinical commitment.

Main duties of the job

Act as a General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) approved Designated Supervisor (DS) for trainee pharmacist(s)(TPs), support them to develop the skills, knowledge and behaviours needed to meet the standards expected of a pharmacist and to deliver patient-centered care. Certify that the trainee pharmacist(s) has met all the learning outcomes and completed their placement to a satisfactory standard allowing them to apply to become a registered pharmacist.

Member of the Pharmacy training and development team and contribute to achieving the team's objectives.

Excellent organisation and communication skills are necessary for this post, in addition to a positive attitude, the ability to manage change and motivate others.

There will be the opportunity for you to participate in a variety of training and development initiatives across the directorate as well as having a clinical commitment.

You must be a registered pharmacist with experience of working in an acute hospital environment and meet the GPhC's requirements for designated supervisors.

Support and mentoring will be provided to ensure that you fulfil your potential in this exciting and challenging role.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

  • Acts as a DS for TP(s) as stipulated in HEIW Foundation Pharmacist training programme handbook.
  • Works with the TPD for foundation pharmacists to ensure each TP has an appropriate training plan and that the training delivered meets the GPhC and HEIW standards.
  • Supports the TP(s) during their placement and ensures that there is the appropriate level of supervision.
  • Support other members of staff such as Practice Supervisors (PS) who are supervising the TP(s).

Member of Training and Development Team

  • Member of the Pharmacy training and development team and contributes to achieving the teams objectives.
  • Develops and delivers directorate education/training sessions for Pharmacy staff.
  • Delivers Pharmacy related training to medical students, nursing staff and allied healthcare professionals as required.

Clinical Pharmacist for identified clinicalspecialty

  • Provide clinical pharmacy services to identified wards or in pharmacy led clinics, as specified in departmental procedures.
  • Collaborate with directorate and Clinical Board pharmacists on prescribing issues as required.
  • Supervise and support pharmacy staff assigned to the given ward(s).
  • When required, act as an accredited tutor/supervisor in the given clinical speciality or area, for pharmacists undertaking post-registration training.

Independent prescriber responsibility

  • Act as an independent prescriber.
  • Work at all times within the relevant legal framework and local Health Board policies and procedures relating to prescribing.
